Dr. Henry Hawthorne, Jr., CCLCF Medical Director Retires

Press Release – August 15, 2021

Wilmington, North Carolina – It is with much gratitude that Community Care of the Lower Cape Fear (CCLCF) would like to announce the well-deserved retirement of Dr. Henry Hawthorne, Jr.

CCLCF has had the honor of Dr. Hawthorne’s leadership for over 10 years, despite already having over forty years of a full and successful career in pediatrics. What started out as part-time contract work in the role of Associate Medical Director in 2011, transitioned into the role of Medical Director after the retirement of Dr. Chuck Rich in 2015.

It is not hard to trace the impact Dr. Hawthorne gave and continues to give. Those who have had the pleasure of working alongside him will tell you not only of his vast span of medical knowledge, support to his fellow workers, advocacy, and promotion to the cause of CCLCF, but also of his deep and caring heart that he openly shares.

A wonderful example of his character is summed up in a quote from James McCabe, a physician and award nominator for Dr. Hawthorne who received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

“The gift of teaching other physicians is a gift that is held at higher level by his peers, Henry shared his knowledge and bedside skills with many physicians. He was a mentor, coach, advocate, friend and teacher for many physicians. This had a rippling impact for the greater good of our medical community.”

We are grateful for the time and passion that Dr. Henry Hawthorne invested in CCLCF, having his support and guidance has been an honor and privilege. We wish him much happiness and fulfillment in his next adventure of life, retirement.
