Local schools and community partners incorporating Community Resiliency Model skills thanks to Landfall Grant

Community Care of the Lower Cape Fear (CCLCF) and the New Hanover County Resiliency Task Force have partnered on a Community Resiliency project, thanks to grant funding from the Landfall Foundation. The award is used to facilitate Community Resiliency Model (CRM)® training workshops and coaching sessions to schools that have committed to a trauma informed model pilot program, child serving agencies, and community partners that the school system touches. So far, 128 attendees have received CRM training!

Addressing ACES, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, is a rising trend in public health, as more is becoming known about how childhood traumas, both at the individual and societal levels, have a devastating impact on health outcomes later in life. This can include greater instances of heart disease, cancer, COPD, and a multitude of behavioral health issues. The goal of CRM® is to help to create “trauma-informed” and “resiliency-informed and focused” communities that share a common understanding of the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system and how resiliency can be restored or increased. Those who have attended provided great feedback about the training and what they learned:

I feel like I learned skills that will not only help me personally, but will help my family and the preschool children that I teach.  I\’m so happy that I participated!!

Resources and tools shared were great for personal and student use.

I truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with a real enthusiasm that was second to none…we look forward to implementing the tools we learned in and beyond our program.
