CCLCF Awarded Landfall Foundation Grant to Partner with New Hanover County Resiliency Task Force

Press Release – November 16, 2020

Wilmington, North Carolina – Community Care of the Lower Cape Fear (CCLCF) and the New Hanover County Resiliency Task Force will partner on a Community Resiliency project, thanks to grant funding from the Landfall Foundation. The award will be used to facilitate Community Resiliency Model (CRM)® training workshops and coaching sessions to schools that have committed to a trauma informed model pilot program, child serving agencies, and community partners that the school system touches.

Addressing ACES, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, is a rising trend in public health, as more is becoming known about how childhood traumas, both at the individual and societal levels, have a devastating impact on health outcomes later in life. This can include greater instances of heart disease, cancer, COPD, and a multitude of behavioral health issues. The goal of CRM® is to help to create “trauma-informed” and “resiliency-informed and focused” communities that share a common understanding of the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system and how resiliency can be restored or increased. “We are honored that the Landfall Foundation recognizes the importance of this endeavor and the long lasting impact this can have in our community.” says Angela Ives, CCLCF Executive Director.

This is the twenty-fifth year that the Landfall Foundation has been awarding grants to organizations in our community. This year, CCLCF was one of 89 organizations funded for a total of $400,000.
